IBM ThinkPad R40 — Fixing the black-out LCD Screen

Opening up my IBM ThinkPad R40 computer to fix the dislodged piece of L-shape metallic clip that has caused the LCD display screen to black-out. After fixing that clip in place, the screen lights up alright.

Can you explain …
Can you explain exactly what you did? My r40’s screen keeps going black. Do I need to replace the backlight, the entire LCD, or what?
